Annie Oakley rifle goes to auction

Today a presentation rifle owned by Annie Oakley is being auctioned in Battle by Burstow and Hewett.

We know Annie Oakley as a show woman with incredible gun skills but, from a start that could have resulted in her remaining in poverty and hunger for all of her life, she carved a trailblazing career that not only broke records but also shattered gender norms of her time, paving the way for women in sports and public life. Oakley remained a vocal advocate for women’s rights, including their right to serve in the military and to bear arms.
